Protective EV Charging Cable Wall Arms may be mounted on any concrete or masonry (block) wall that is structurally strong enough to safely support the Arm.

Can the arm be mounted on a metal or wooden post?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Protective EV Charging Cable Wall Arms can be mounted on rectangular posts with a minimum side width of 3" / 7.5 cm, subject to the following instructions:
Metal post
Through-holes must be drilled through the post (holes that enter from one side and exit from the opposite side).
The arm must be secured to the post using 3–4 through-bolts of sufficient length, according to the holes in the wall plate.
The bolt head should tighten the arm’s wall plate against the post. Tightening on the opposite side of the post must be done using a washer with a minimum diameter of 3/4" / 20 mm and a nut.
Recommended bolt diameter: 1/4" / 6 mm.
The required mounting hardware is not included in the product package and must be purchased separately.
Do not use self-drilling screws to attach the arm to the post.
Barkan does not recommend a specific type of post and cannot provide an opinion regarding the structural strength of the post. The installer is responsible for verifying that the post is sufficiently strong prior to installation.

Wooden post
Installation on a wooden post that complies with the minimum dimensions requirement is explained in the product installation instructions.
Hardware for installing on wood is included with the product.

Can the arm be mounted to a round metal post?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Protective EV Charging Cable Wall Arms can be mounted to a round metal pole with a minimum diameter of 3 inches (7.5 cm).
However, as we do not provide a dedicated mounting accessory for round posts and because the wall mounting plates of all arms are flat, a custom adapter must be fabricated by a qualified metal fabricator. The fabricator should assume responsibility for the adapter design and the installation.

At what height should the arms be installed?

Accepted Answer

The recommended installation height is at least 230 cm above ground level, to allow people to walk underneath without obstruction.
It is also advised to position the carrying handle at a height of 135–140 cm for convenient use.

What is the maximum cable length that can be hung on the arm?

Accepted Answer

There is no limitation on cable length, within the arm’s load capacity (5 kg).

Question 6

Is the arm compatible with all types of cables?

Accepted Answer

The arm is suitable for standard cables up to 0.7" / 18 mm in diameter, which can be inserted into the arm.
Larger diameter cables can be mounted hanging over the arm.

Are the EV Charger Stands compatible with all types of chargers?

Accepted Answer

Yes but it is recommended that the charger's mounting dimensions match the maximum rail dimensions on the stand and that the cable size fits through the internal conduit (external mounting is also possible). Full dimensions are listed on the packaging and website.

Are all parts of the arm rust-resistant?

Accepted Answer

The metal parts of the arm are coated with rust protection (5-year warranty).
Regular lubrication and maintenance must be performed as per the maintenance instructions provided in the user manual.

Can the arms be folded when not in use?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the arms are foldable.
It is recommended to choose an installation location that allows for folding and opening without obstructions.

What standards apply to EV charging cable arms?

Accepted Answer

There is currently no dedicated, European, or U.S. standard for EV charging cable support arms as a standalone product category.

In line with our internal engineering protocols, which reference relevant safety principles from UL (U.S.) and TÜV (Germany) standards, the arm passed mechanical testing under a static load of 20 kg, which is four times its rated maximum of 5 kg.
The product itself is not UL-listed or TÜV-certified unless explicitly stated otherwise.
The arm successfully passed a salt-spray corrosion test simulating approximately 5 years of outdoor use.

What are the guidelines for using the EV charging cable arm when the vehicle is parked on the street across a sidewalk?

Accepted Answer

Regulations governing sidewalk charging fall under the authority of the relevant local municipality. Users are responsible for verifying and complying with all applicable local laws and public space regulations.
In many jurisdictions, extending charging cables into public areas may be restricted or prohibited. In practice, some users route cables over trees, signs, or other obstacles, or hang them in the air or lay them on the ground, which may create safety and liability concerns.
We are currently participating in a pilot program with a local authority, where a procedure is under review to allow temporary extension of the arm into public space during active charging, provided that the arm is fully returned to private property once charging is complete.
Our cross-sidewalk system includes an internal mechanism that automatically folds the arm and returns it to private property at the end of the charging session.

In all materials depicting installation that extends over a sidewalk (website and packaging), we include the disclaimer:
“If permitted in public areas.”
For the 120″ (3 m) arm, because of its length, we recommend installing the charging station close to the arm and using a 20+ ft (6+ m) charging cable.

Important Note – Grounding Considerations
As the distance from the main grounding point in the electrical panel increases, grounding effectiveness may decrease. As a general rule of thumb, effective grounding is typically maintained within approximately 10 meters (33 ft) from the primary grounding source.

If the charging station is installed on a perimeter fence or wall located further from the main grounding point, and the charging connector extends an additional distance (e.g., approximately 5 meters / 16 ft from the station), it is recommended to ensure that all required protective measures are implemented in accordance with applicable electrical regulations. Where necessary, supplemental grounding may be added to the charging station and/or to the wall or structure on which it is installed.

Is a certified electrician required for installing the arm?

Accepted Answer

No. The arm is designed for self-installation.
It must be installed according to the assembly instructions, including a load test upon completion as outlined in the user manual.

* Routing the supply cable to the charger inside the post helps protect the cable, reduces wear and tear, and minimizes potential hazards to the surrounding environment.

* It is recommended to provide grounding for the Arm and the post as a precaution in case of a defect or fault in the charging cable or supply cable. Any grounding connection must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable electrical codes.

* Installation of the charger on a post, as well as routing the supply cable through the post, must be carried out by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable electrical regulations.
